Nail Art

Please welcome Becca to the Mod Style Lounge Staff!  She is a 15 year old girl who loves photography, listening to music, hanging out with her friends, and dancing.  Check out her bio page to learn more about her.

Hi everyone!  Today I’m blogging about…NAILS!  Nail art is so popular right now!  There are a million different things you can do to your nails, so be creative!  You can spice up your nails by just doing stripes, flowers, dots, or rhinestones.  If you can draw well and you have a nail brush, you can draw almost anything on your nails.

Tools
Just like anything else, tools help you get things done better and faster.  Having a nail brush and a dotter will come in handy for doing nail art.  I tried using a bobby pin instead of a dotter because I saw someone said you could use it.  It worked (sort of), but a dotter would work a lot better.  You can get a nail set with a brush and dotter for only $10 from Sephora.  Sephora Nail Art Set

Nail Polish
I think Essie has the prettiest nail polish colors, but if you’re like me you, don’t want to spend $8 for one bottle of nail polish.  If you want something that’s better quality than NYC, I like Revlon or Sally Hansen.  I like OPI also, but it’s expensive like Essie is.  There are so many different brands of nail polish available; so sometimes it's trial and error finding out what works best for you.

Alternatives
If you don’t like painting your nails, nails strips are an easy alternative.  They’ve become really popular because they are easy to put on and there are so many different designs available.  The most popular brand is the Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Polish Strips.  There have 40 different styles and they last up to 10 days.  It’s $9 for one box; I’m not sure how many strips are in each box though.  If you go to Sephora or Ulta they have some other brands of nail strips. Nail Trends

Magnetic Nails

Magnetic nail polish has been becoming more popular recently.  Sally Hansen, nails inc., and China Glaze are the only brands I've seen with this nail polish so far.  Nails inc. has two different types, a wave magnet and a fishnet magnet; each one comes in different colors.  You could paint your nails with the polish and try using a regular magnet for a different design.
This is the description for the nails inc. magnetic nail polish.
“Create gorgeous nail art in minutes with this revolutionary polish that uses a magnet to create an amazing nail art design. This unique formula has been specially developed with metallic particles to create a fishnet nail effect using magnetic forces. As the magnet is held over the nail, the iron powder in the formulation gravitates toward the magnet forming the pattern hidden in the magnet for an astonishing finish.”   nails inc. Gradient Nails (also known as ombre nails)
Gradient nails are also really popular.  Here’s a tutorial on how to do it.  Gradient Nail Tutorial (I like the look of three colors on each nail better, but I couldn’t find a good tutorial for it. You just put three colors on the sponge instead of two.)
Some people do this as the ombre effect; it’s pretty, but I like the other one a lot better.

Caviar Nails (also known as micro bead nails)

I’ve never actually tried this, but I think it looks super cute!! Here’s a tutorial on how to do it. Micro Bead Nails Tutorial

Marble Nails

This is another SUPER cute idea to try.  I found out that this doesn’t work that well with nail polish that is gloppy because it doesn’t drop into the water, so make sure your nail polish isn’t old. Marble Nail Tutorial

 Dotted Nails

As I said in the beginning, there are a million different things you can do.  You just have to be creative!  Pinterest is a great place to go to find pictures of nail art if you need some inspiration.  And YouTube has a ton of nail tutorials.
What is your favorite nail trend that you've seen?  Let me know in the comments!
