Only one week left to prepare! Are you ready?
Announcing the ladies who will judge those outfits...
Sarah!
Sarah is the admin of the Mod Style Lounge. She came up with the idea for this blog last year after meeting two young ladies, Kaley and Eden, at a writer’s conference and found they all took interest in modest fashion. From that, Mod Style Lounge began. She is the only original staff left. She is a lover of God, a freelance writer, and a cosmetologist in training.

Madeline!
Madeline was introduced to Mod Style Lounge by Eden, one of the original staff writers. After Eden resigned from her position on the blog, Madeline promptly jumped in and took over for her. She says, “I was super excited when I got asked to help because I think this is such a cool way to glorify God. What could be more fun than talking about something you love and including the One you love to be a part of it?!”
Haylie!
Haylie is the newest member of Mod Style Lounge. She helped Sarah brainstorm this event. Haylie is a proud country girl from Florida, calls herself crazy and a little weird, and is uber proud to be a Christian. She enjoys reading, writing, going shopping, talking to friends, going to church and youth group, hanging out with her mom and dancing in the car.
Eden!
Eden was an original member of Mod Style Lounge, and now she’s back to help judge the fashion show! Eden likes being able to express herself with style freely. She thinks she is bold with her style and doesn't stay within the lines. Her passions include her relationship with Christ, writing, photography, music, amateur psychology, and throwing outfits together.
Emily!
Emily is Sarah’s younger sister, who likes fashion and modesty, ballet and worship dancing, and is a junior in high school. She is an aspiring photographer and keeps a blog of her journey. You can check it out here. She loves the Lord and wants to go on a mission trip after she graduates high school before she starts her career as a photographer.

Acne! What You Need to Know
I wake up, roll out of bed (literally sometimes), waddle toward the bathroom, look in the mirror and SCREAM! Red spots, white bumps and black holes have invaded my face! What am I to do?!?!?!
First, lets talk about acne. Why does it happen? There are three main reasons for it.
One, excess oil production. This is usually triggered by hormonal changes such as a upcoming period, pregnancy, menopause and birth control. It can also be caused by stress.
Two, Dead skin cells. Oil tends to get the dead skin cells to move more rapidly, cause your skin to be sticky and thick, which makes it clogged and forms as blackhead or whitehead.
Three, Bacteria. Your pores normally get clogged because of bacteria. Clogged pores cause acne and can last for awhile.
Now that we know more about acne, why don't we take a small test to see what type of skin you have. Knowing your skin type will help you know what type of cleanser is best for you.
Step 1: Wash your face with a gentle soap or cleanser and gently pat dry.
Step 2: Wait an hour. Do not apply anything to your face. Also not if your skin feels tight.
Step 3: Press a small piece of tissue to the center of your forehead, outer forehead, chin, center of cheeks, outer of cheeks and nose.
Step 4: Look at tissue and identify.
If you have oil on each piece then you have oily skin.
If you have oil on some piece, especially the center areas) then you have combination skin.
If you have flaky residue and no oil on all the tissue then you have dry skin.
If you have tight skin with no oil then you have dry skin.
If you have no oil, no flakes and no tightness then you have normal skin.
Now that we know our skin type, lets find out what cleansers are best for you!
Dr. Oz (famous for being a regular on the Oprah Show) and Dr. Roizen say that they like Neutrogena. I am also a fan of Neutrogena, so I am going to recommend all Neutrogena products in this article.
For the girls with the oily skin (like me) I would use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser. It is best to use 'oil free' cleansers seeing as we already have oily skin. It treats blackheads and whiteheads and will work! Just remember, routine is key.
For the girls with the dry skin, I would suggest using Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser. It have a moisturizer inside of it. It's not to think so that it won't clog your pores. Remember, routine is key. Also, you do not have to get the grapefruit. I just post it because I enjoy a fresh, clean scent. They have original and for redness.
For girls with normal skin, I would suggest using Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub. It's nice and light and it gets deep into your pores for maximum cleanness!
For girls with combination skin, I would suggest using the Neutrogena Wave. The vibrations helps the soap go deep into your pores and helps massage it in. Look at all the pads that go with it and pick out the one that best describes your skin.
Almost each Neutrogena product comes in an exfoliating form. I would suggest getting it. Exfoliating your skin means that you are removing the dead skin cells, which is one of the three main causes of acne. When using an exfoliating cleanser, do not scrub as hard with it. It may cause irritation.
Also, if you get acne on your body (like your upper chest, back and legs) then maybe the fragrance in your body wash is irritating it. You might need to use a non scented body wash. You may also like to try using Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub. It is like a face cleanser, but for your body. You can also get it in grapefruit scent, but if you aren't sure if it will irritate your skin, then stick with this type. Also, wash with a loofah! It helps exfoliate your skin and makes it soft and sooth.
So now, I wake up in the morning, roll out of bed (sometimes literally), waddle to the bathroom, look in the mirror and SCREAM because my face has fewer acne signs then it did two weeks ago!

Just the Way You Are
I love this new song by Bruno Mars. He talks about the natural beauty in this girl he likes and he says that she doesn't realize that she's beautiful and I think that us girls can relate to being the girl who doesn't realize she's pretty. Every time someone gives us a compliment we take it but we don't believe it. But in the song Bruno Mars is telling this girl over and over again how wonderful she is and he never stops reminding her. He "tells her she's beautiful" and "amazing just the way she [is]." And I was thinking to myself after hearing this song, man I wish I had a guy who would say all those things to me and then I remembered:
God says just that. He tells us we're beautiful, in Genesis God says He created us in His image in Psalms 139:13-14 God tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalms 45:11 says the King is enthralled by you're beauty. Ladies we have had someone who has been telling us these things before the day we were born. God made us "amazing just the way we are". So next time you wish you had someone to tell you your beautiful pick up your Bible because God is telling you how wonderful you are all through out it.

A Girl's Life Fashion Week
A Girl’s Life Fashion Week is a modest fashion show hosted here, at Mod Style Lounge, for those of us who are proud to be girls, but protective of the bodies God has entrusted us with. The event takes place October 1-8, 2010. What you’ll do is make a post on your blog with the pictures of yourself wearing an outfit that fits within the theme of each day and add the direct link to the Mister Linky gadget at the bottom of the different day’s posts. There will be a post here for each day you can link up to. You must participate in at least 5 of the 8 days to have a chance to win. The themes of each day will be:
• Going to the big game
Show your team spirit for you favorite/local/school/college team with style!
• Going to a formal event
Modest, classy, but not too expensive. How will you pull it off?
• Going to church
What do you wear to church?
• Going to relax at home
Look cute while lounging around the house by yourself or with friends!
• Going to the mall
What do you wear while shopping or just hanging out at your local mall?
• Going to youth group /OR/ going to work (whichever applies to you)
Teens: How do you dress at youth group? Adults: How do you dress for work?
• Going out to eat
What would you wear to a nice restaurant?
• Going to the park and/or on a hike
What will you wear when the weather is chilly and you’re enjoying God’s great outdoors?
Your goal is to put together creative and trendy outfits for each theme. How you interpret it is up to you! But here’s the catch. You may not spend over $35 on your outfit for the day! You must either use things you already have in your closet or raid your local thrift store! For this reason, tell us where you got the pieces you are wearing, how much they cost, and/or if you have already had them in your closest for about a year. Your outfit will then be judged in 5 categories:
1. Modesty
We’re not going to go through a list of what’s modest and what’s not. If it feels modest to you, go ahead with it! Just remember, this is one of the categories you’ll be judged in to win.
2. Fashion
You’ll also be judged on your ability to incorporate the latest trends into your modest outfit.
3. Style
Put your own spin on your outfit. Incorporating the latest trends doesn’t mean you have to look like everyone else! The more original you are and the better it suits you, the higher you’ll score in this category.
4. Creativity
This consists of being creative in thinking up an outfit for each theme and being creative in how you put your outfit together. Wow us with something we’ve never thought of, and you’ll score high.
5. Overall Appeal
This will be the judges scoring of how appealing the specific outfit is to them.
More information is coming soon, so keep checking back!
Meanwhile, spread the word! One way is to pick up the button on our sidebar and post it on your own blog. We want to get this out so lots of beautiful ladies can participate!
