Quick & Easy Eye Make-up Tips by Kaley

If you’re like me, you’re rushed for time in the mornings. School, work, trips to the grocery store, or anything else you may need to do can cut your "me time" short. Here are some tips for eye makeup application on the double:

5 Step Application:
What you need:
-Light eye shadow (a cream colored eye shadow works best)
-Medium eye shadow (this can be any lighter shade of pink, brown, purple, or whatever your favorite eye shadow color is.)
-Dark eye shadow (this eye shadow color should be a deep brown or a shade darker than your medium eye shadow color)
-Eyeliner
-Mascara

Step 1: Apply the light eye shadow on your brow bone.
Step 2: Apply the medium eye shadow on your eyelid; blend.
Step 3: Sweep the dark eye shadow into the crease of your lid; blend.
Step 4: Apply eyeliner on the top and bottom of your eyelid or just on the top. Avoid applying eyeliner on just the bottom of your eyelid, because it makes your eye look smaller.
Step 5: Apply mascara.
DONE and looking gorgeous!

When you’re really in a pinch for time, try this quicker version:

3 Step Application:
What you need:
-Your favorite eye shadow
-Eyeliner
-Mascara

Step 1: Sweep eye shadow on your eyelid.
Step 2: Apply eyeliner.
Step 3: Apply mascara.
DONE and beautiful!

Having a hard time figuring out what eye shadow brings out your eye color? Maybe this will help:

Green eyes: Purples, pinks, and reds work best for you. Try using purple eye shadow on your eyelid, light brown eye shadow on your crease, cream eye shadow for your brow bone and purple eyeliner. Your eyes will really pop!

Blue eyes: Oranges, coppers, and golds work best for you. Try using sparkly gold eye shadow on your eyelid and brown eyeliner. Very glamorous!

Brown eyes: You can wear just about any color. Browns, bronzes, and greens look the best. Try using light brown eye shadow on your eyelid, a darker brown eye shadow on your crease, cream eye shadow on your brow bone, and dark brown eyeliner. You'll look like you had your makeup done by a pro!

Hazel eyes: Warm tones, bronzes, and greens really bring out your eyes. Try using bronze eye shadow on your eyelid, a light brown on your crease, and brown eyeliner. You'll look stunning!

Self-Confidence

After Eden’s wonderfully written “First Things First” post, I feel like I need to address one issue: Self-Confidence.

Number one in Eden’s “field guide to inner beauty” was, “Love others as you would love yourself.” Great guideline, but you can only apply this if you really do love yourself. How can you love others if you don’t? When you wake up in the morning and look in the mirror at yourself, do you see a beautiful girl, or one who needs to put on her make-up to be beautiful? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think make-up is bad at all. I think it’s great to want to look your best. But are you confident in yourself, how God made naturally made you, and how you look without make-up first?

I totally understand why we young women are so insecure in who we are. Lately, there’s been a lot of controversy over a Ralph Lauren model who was photoshopped. The model was a size 4, and they photoshopped her picture and fired her for being too fat. Come again, a size 4??? Ladies, that is not fat. And it’s not healthy for a size 4 woman to be considered “fat”. Here’s a comparison. Please excuse the skimpy outfit on the real photo:

It’s not rocket science why girls are so insecure with their body types. Or their faces for that matter. Watch this crazy photoshopping done to a woman from the neck up in this video:

As I watched that ad, I realized not even models are flawless. Their photos are fake and fixed. The girl behind all that looks normal. She looks like you and I. If we can be confident in how we look and who we are, and not try to change ourselves, we can be truly beautiful, from the inside flowing out. This goes for your personality too, why try to be somebody else who you're not? God made you beautiful, now it’s time for you to accept it. Smile with confidence! =)

First Things First

I think we should start with first things first.
Before we talk about clothes, or make up, or anything else, the deadly topic of inner beauty should be covered.
What is inner beauty? For me, it all starts with having a love for people. A concern and willing heart to serve and help our fellow man. It starts with selflessness, gentleness, self control, kindness, love, ect.
Inner beauty is cultivated by a sense of just being real. Not putting on a show or saving face. Being all things to all men. Really I could go on about this for ages.
But let's stick with this condensed "field guide" to cultivating inner beauty:

1) Love others as you would love yourself.
2)Be real, no matter what it will do to your status or standing with certain people.
3) Be kind and gentle with all but firm, affirming and encouraging in the same breath.
4)Let it start with the inside. Cultivate beauty from the inside and the rest will be a natural flow.

Simplistic, I know. But I don't see being put any other way.

Stay beautiful!

Meet Kaley!

How old are you?
18 years old

In what state were you born?
Florida

What does "beauty" mean to you?
To be honest, I've always had a distorted view of what beauty is. I thought to be beautiful, you needed to look like a celebrity. Perfect hair, perfect teeth, perfect body, perfect everything! What God has been showing me is that real beauty comes from within - from Him. Beauty on the outside will fade away. Real beauty, that will last, comes from the inside.

Which aspect we cover is your favorite (clothes/hair/makeup)?
Make-up, for sure! I LOVE make-up! It's so fun to play with. Ever since I was little I've loved playing with make-up and giving people make-overs.

What is your current favorite movie?
It's not a new movie but I love 'Legally Blonde'.

What is your current favorite book?
'Lies Young Women Believe' by Nancy Leigh DeMoss and Dannah Gresh

What is your current favorite band?
Switchfoot

What is your current favorite style?
I like to wear jeans with dressier type shirts. I like classic casual looks found at American Eagle Outfitters and Gap mixed with more trendy clothes from stores like Forever 21 and H&M.

What is your current favorite bible verse?
Philippians 4:6-7, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus".

What is your favorite thing about being a girl?
Everything! I like that I get to wear dresses, have my nails done, wear make-up...

What's your least favorite thing about being a girl?
Nothing! I love being a girl!

What would you like to do after you graduate?
I want to take a year off and travel around the world working with missionaries. After that I want to attend cosmetology school. The thing I want to do more than anything is be a wife and a stay-at-home mom.

What are some hobbies you have besides fashion and beauty?
Hanging-out with my family and friends, listening to music, and traveling.

What does “beauty” mean to you? True beauty starts from inside a person and exudes confidence and humility, joy and peace. That’s what makes a person truly beautiful.

What is your most favorite thing about being a girl? I absolutely love being a girl! We have this attractive compassion that makes people feel comfortable around us.

What is you least favorite thing about being a girl? Probably confidence issues. Every girl wants to be as pretty as the next and we miss our own beauty while looking at other girls.

Introducing: Eden!!!

Hello Lovelies!
People call me 'Eden' if they want to get my attention. I'm 16, born in and currently living in North Carolina.

Beauty to me is a multi faceted concept. Beauty is a reflection of the heart. What a person is on the inside is what she'll reflect outwardly. The reflection should be beautiful. For God made every woman beautiful.

I love all aspects of beauty. Making one beautiful on the outside as she should be on the inside. My current favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice and my favorite book The Orphaned Anything's by Stephen Christian.Cities by Anberlin is my all time favorite cd, hands down. I love the 'Boho' style. It's cute and freeflow, but I love the 'emo' style too. It's got dark with flecks of color to back it up with a little bit of funky craziness. As a girl, I love being able to express myself with style freely. I don't stay in the lines when it comes to your typical 16 year old girl. I'd like to think I'm a bold with my style. My least favorite thing to cope with in being female is most definitely the rollercoaster we call horomones (I call them "horrormones"). When I graduate, I want to go to college for proffessional photography and to be a musician. Music and photography are two aspects in which my overflow of emotion is released.I don't have any hobbies. I have passions and they include: Writing, Photography, Making and Listening to Music, People, Amateur Psychology, Sketching, Ballroom Dancing, and throwing outfits together.
One interesting thing that few know directly is that I go by my middle name

signing off for now-
Eden

Welcome!

Hey, ladies! Welcome to Mod Style Lounge! Here, we strive for modest fashion that’s stylish and cute. Now wait a minute…how can you be modest and cute at the same time? Keep reading to find out!

What is “modest”? Modesty is a choice, just like the way you dress now. Like you choose to be preppy or punk, you can choose to be modest, too. Modesty is a style that can be adapted to the way you like to dress. Dressing modestly doesn’t mean giving up dressing trendy, it just means looking harder for fashionable clothes that don’t “show off your body”. This can be fun at times and a challenge at other times.
Being modest is a fashion statement in itself. When you choose to wear clothes that aren’t skin tight, shirts that don’t show midriff or scoop low at the neck revealing cleavage, and pants, shorts, and skirts that don’t show (or show off) your buttocks, it’s like breaking away from the pack and setting the standard for the people around you.

Why dress modest? Dressing modestly shows respect to God, the people around you, and especially men. God wired guys’ minds differently than ours. They are very visual, and when you wear revealing clothing, it tempts the guy to imagine the rest and it’s hard for him to stop. So basically, he’s imagining you naked. I know, gross, right? Hearing this, it’s easy to understand why dressing immodestly could attract the wrong kind of guy. And all of us want a nice guy who cares more about us than our bodies, don’t we?
Dressing immodestly can also send signals that we are not confident in who we are, so we use our bodies to get attention. This may sound good at first, but soon, you’ll end up attracting attention from some jerk and run the risk of being dragged into something you don’t want to do. The guy you deserve is attracted to a girl who is confident and doesn’t need to show off her body. Your body is a God-given, beautiful thing, but isn’t it so much more exciting and rewarding to save it for one man only?

What else do you blog about at Mod Style Lounge? We blog about all things fashion and beauty. We may talk about the latest trends, or about makeup, hairstyles, favorite products or favorite places to shop. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NLT) says, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” In other words, God wants us to take care of ourselves, be the beautiful women who he meant us to be, because, since we belong to him, our bodies are borrowed in a sense. He made us, and wants us to take care of his creation.

Your options are always welcome here; we love you hear what you think! However, make sure your comments are respectful and mature, which I’m sure you are.
